“When I give birth to art,”
She said,
“The post-birth headspace
Goes from steel wool,
To a comfort level
Beyond imagination.
A place where beauty
Gives off a radiance so bright
It burns holes through your retinas
With a heat so intense
It leaves no trace of disease
Or pain
Or emotional scarring.
That is where I want to be.
A place where I can be alone
In a silence that doesn’t
Scream my name in the darkness;
Intimidating me down to nothingness.
A place that doesn’t value routine,
But rather finds joy and hope
In diversity instead of denial.
A place where people
Find no hope in apathy,
But instead find honor in empathy.
A place i’d like to call home.”
